Global GT Lights is a national motor racing championship open to racers aged 16 and over who hold an MSA National B or above competition licence.
It is a one-make championship, with all competing cars essentially identical. The spaceframe chassis is shelled with a three piece fibreglass body, designed specifically for circuit racing and to produce downforce.
THE PHILOSOPHY BEHIND GLOBAL GT LIGHTS
The original idea behind the Global GT Lights racing car was to mate a simple yet effective racing chassis with a light but powerful motorbike engine.
The first incarnation of the Global GT Light was powered by the 600cc engine from the Yamaha Thundercat motorbike, which produces 100bhp and revs to a maximum of 12,500 rpm. This proved to be an excellent car to race as well as being simply to run and service.
The original idea was developed for 2004 season to include the 1000cc 150bhp engine from the Yamaha R1 motorbike.
2005 The Global GT Light is renamed to Global GT1 for 1000cc and Global GT6 for 600cc 2005 Saw the introduction of the Global GT2 using the 1300 Suzuki GSR engine. The main difference between the GT1 and GT2 is the GT2 has 2 seats.
2006 The Global GT2 has proven to be a quick car on the track. Click here for review from Total Kit Car Mag 2006 Developing the Global GTS 2000, based on the Global GT2 using the Ford 2L Duratec engine producing approx 200bhp - please see 'The Cars' on this website
